Hotelschool The Hague has been founded 86 years ago and is an internationally renowned specialist in Hospitality Management, organising one bachelor, a master and a short track.
There are two campuses, The Hague and Amsterdam, with student accommodation, hotelrooms and restaurants. English is the current language.
A strict selection process ensures to bring in the adequate students, average 500 every year, with many more candidates doing the selection.
In the past Hotelschool The Hague focused on growth, internationalisation with 50% international student recruitment, developing Amsterdam campus 3 years ago, and was in the past few years dominated by operational topics and organisational changes.
The managers of the school are in need of being professionalised which is currently done with a management development program.
The school is now concentrating on education and quality in education with a new curriculum and the next accreditation in 2018.

The Faculty consists of ca. 125 faculty members and a number of freelancers, divided in several Faculty teams, working in a variety range of hospitality related business areas. The school community is international, and the programme is taught completely in English. Hotelschool The Hague has an excellent reputation built up over 85 years, the result of the structured educational programme and the experience and quality of staff and lecturers. 1. Position in the organisation
The Dean of Faculty is a member of the Board of Directors (team of 3) and reports to the President of the Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees. The Board of Directors is jointly responsible to the Board of Trustees.
The Board of Directors works closely together with the Management Team on all tactical and operational goals aiming as such to empower the middle-management.
The management team of the Faculty consist of the Faculty Department Heads, the Programme Managers (Bachelor, Research, and Master), and the Managers of the Educational Support department and the Media Centre.
The Dean leads all education and research within Hotelschool The Hague safeguarding and developing the quality of excellent (international) education and accreditation.
Next to the Bachelor, the Master and the Research Centre he/she will develop new programs related to the vision and strategy of Hotelschool The Hague.
The Dean works closely with the Faculty Department Heads and the Programme Managers to further develop strong programs and maximise learning opportunities for the students. Through familiarity with the bachelor, master and research programs, summer programs, policies, and overall organisational goals and needs, the Dean provides academic and administrative leadership within the Hotelschool.
2. Purpose of the position
The Dean of Faculty works collaboratively in further developing internal and external partnerships and developing the strategic academic goals and direction of Hotelschool The Hague.
In collaboration with faculty and staff, the Dean of Faculty will foster a culture of quality, innovation, professional development and performance, ensuring that program development and delivery are agile and responsive to the evolving demands of international students and employers in the international hospitality business.
Together with the other members of the Management team his or her focus will be delivering the vision, mission and strategy of Hotelschool The Hague: ’Delivering the promise: best students, best faculty, best support’.
The Dean of Faculty is an experienced entrepreneurial educator and a people manager with preferably a background in the hospitality industry or with verifiable affinity in hospitality.
A PhD or a DBA is desired as well as good knowledge of the educational Dutch laws and regulations, (inter)national accreditation requirements and other relevant (a.o technological) developments within education.
The Dean will bring a strong track record of managing change and innovation with professionals and advancing strategic initiatives, as well as working in cooperation with stakeholders to create a shared vision. Besides a strong strategic focus, the size and organisational structure of the Hotelschool requires also a hands-on attitude to guide the organisation and its individual members in the desired direction and to secure a successful implementation of the chosen strategy.
The Dean is an academic leader and an accomplished communicator. Capable of rallying and mentoring faculty and staff and creating a positive work and learning culture based on talent development and performance.
Possessing an insider’s understanding of the academic (and corporate) world, the Dean will be adept at managing relationships and creating partnerships with external stakeholders. Familiar with the dynamic developments in education and the hospitality industry, the Dean will continually be focused on educational trends, quality, the future of the hospitality industry, and the changing role of Hotelschool The Hague within.
The Dean of Faculty has an outstanding academic record, a deep appreciation for research, education and student experience, is a people’s manager, has knowledge of the issues facing (Dutch) higher education and demonstrated experience in an (international hospitality) business school or with a demonstrable affinity in hospitality, including a strong commitment to advancement.
4. You have/are:
Hotelschool The Hague offers a gross annual compensation up to a maximum of €128.000 (Regeling bezoldiging topfunctionarissen OCW-sectoren/ WNT).
In addition, Hotelschool The Hague offers an excellent package of fringe benefits. such as 53 days of leave with retention of salary per calendar year, a retirement pension through ABP, excellent opportunities for further education, the possibility to participate in collective (health) insurance and generous opportunities for sabbatical.
The contract is for undetermined time with a trial period of 1 year.
You will mainly be working in The Hague but you are willing to work at both school campuses in The Hague and Amsterdam.
